Philadelphia 76ers’ All-Star guard, James Harden, has been the center of attention in the NBA offseason.
It has been almost two months since Harden requested a trade from the 76ers, and he even turned down the opportunity to enter free agency by opting into his $35.6 million player option for 2023-24 in hopes of facilitating a trade.
However, during a recent tour in China, Harden made headlines by calling the 76ers’ president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey, a liar and expressing his desire to leave the organization.
He even hinted at the possibility of playing basketball in China.
“Every time I come here, the love is just like…it’s crazy, you know what I mean?” Harden said via Philadelphia Inquirer. “So I feel like they deserve to actually see me come play here. Love is always crazy here.”
Not only did Harden get shown major love in China, his Chinese fans gobbled up 10,000 bottles of his wine in 5 seconds.
Before the 2022 trade deadline, the 76ers traded another disgruntled All-Star, Ben Simmons, along with additional assets, to the Brooklyn Nets in a major deal that brought Harden to Philadelphia.
Despite the addition of Harden to a team already led by Joel Embiid, who won this year’s MVP award, the 76ers have still failed to advance past the second round of the playoffs with this promising core.
As a result, head coach Doc Rivers was fired and replaced by Nick Nurse, who led the Toronto Raptors to a championship in 2018-19.
In the previous season, Harden averaged 21 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in 58 games.
