Days after publicly accusing 76ers president Daryl Morey of lying, James Harden reiterated that he saw no way of reconciling with the Philadelphia organization.
In an interview with a KHOU 11 reporter in Houston, Harden stated that he believed his relationship with the 76ers was irreparable.
Despite his frustration, Harden expressed his focus on controlling what he can and preparing for the upcoming season.
“I’ve been patient all summer,” Harden said of his situation with the team to KHOU. “For me, it’s just focus on what I can control and getting ready for this season.”
When he was asked if it was too late to repair the relationship with the Sixers, “I think so,” Harden replied.
The controversy surrounding Harden’s comments began at an Adidas media event in China, where he first criticized Morey.
Harden declared his refusal to be associated with any organization involving Morey, labeling him a liar. Sources revealed that the 76ers planned to have Harden attend training camp and start the season, although his discontent could create an uncomfortable situation. The team engaged in discussions with the LA Clippers, Harden’s preferred destination, but failed to secure a suitable trade.
Harden’s dissatisfaction primarily centers around the absence of a long-term maximum contract offer, posing a risk to the team’s championship aspirations. Harden, who led the league in assists last season, was in Houston for a charitable event and had spent the majority of his career with the Rockets under Morey’s leadership.
After a trade to the Brooklyn Nets failed to yield a championship, Harden expressed his desire to join the 76ers due to his close relationship with Morey, both professionally and personally.
