Jalen Rose is no longer with ESPN, but still has a voice in the sports media world.
Rose took to X to rip sports media personalities who “trash athletes for fame.”
“Dear Athletes media folks gone trash you for fame, get paid then apologize when the check clears.”
“I’m so happy that I didn’t sell out or clout chase while using views, subscriptions and funds I made in the process as validation.”

Rose doesn’t refer to anybody in particular, but it can certainly be suspected that Rose is referring to his former colleague, Stephen A. Smith, who has a tendency to “trash athletes” as he did recently when he fat shamed Zion Williamson.
Smith has been quite notorious for this type of commentary which can date back to his famous rant when Kwame Brown was traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Memphis Grizzlies for Pau Gasol in 2008.
It’s understandable that Rose, a former NBA star himself, is more sensitive to disparaging comments about athletes than those who never played professionally such as Stephen A. Smith.
