Following Vic Fangio’s departure from the Miami Dolphins to join the Philadelphia Eagles, cornerback Jalen Ramsey hinted at the impact of the former defensive coordinator during his time in South Florida.
After the Dolphins notified their longest-serving player, Xavien Howard, of their intention to release him, Ramsey took to social media to praise Howard as the “greatest corner” in franchise history.
In a post, Ramsey also alluded to feeling slighted by an unnamed individual for not utilizing their full potential during their lone season together.
“It’s crazy how things unfold sometimes, but one thing I know for sure is that it was an honor teaming up with the GREATEST corner in Miami Dolphins history, in my opinion,” Ramsey wrote alongside a series of pictures with Howard. “I won’t ever forgive [him] for not utilizing our full skillset.”

A league source confirmed to the Miami Herald that Fangio was the person he was referring to. Howard, drafted by the Dolphins in 2016 with the No. 38 pick, will free up $18.5 million in cap space for the team, available for use after June 2 as a post-June 1 cut.
In 2023, the Los Angeles Rams traded Ramsey to Miami in exchange for a third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long. Ramsey appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins last season, while Howard played in 12, but the two only shared the field for eight of those games.
With Howard’s departure, the Dolphins still have cornerbacks Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, Ethan Bonner, and Keion Crossen under contract for the 2024 season. However, the team now lacks experienced players in the position behind Ramsey.
On the same day, the Dolphins also informed defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah of his release. His departure will save the team approximately $13.7 million in cap space with a pre-June 1 designation.
