Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts generously covered the funeral expenses for 18-year-old football player Jarvon Coles, who tragically lost his life in a shooting near Houston earlier this month.
Coles, a senior at North Shore High School and a local football standout, was fatally shot during a drive-by shooting at a house party in the Humble area on March 10. Despite efforts to save him, Coles succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Upon learning of Coles’ untimely death, Hurts, who hails from Texas and attended a rival high school, Channelview, stepped in to support Coles’ family by financing the funeral service held at Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church in Humble over the weekend. Hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their respects to the young athlete.

In addition to covering the funeral costs, Hurts recorded a heartfelt video message for Coles’ family, which was played during the service, according to reports from KHOU and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The tragic incident unfolded when authorities responded to reports of underage drinking at a rental property on Fieldwick Lane. They discovered Coles unresponsive in the backyard with a gunshot wound to his chest. Despite their efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Police believe the shooting was carried out by one or more individuals who fired from a block away before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Coles, an accomplished all-district linebacker with aspirations of attending Lamar University, was remembered fondly by his family and teammates. His grandfather and guardian, Braxton Coles, urged parents to cherish their children, emphasizing the need for vigilance in today’s world.
Teammate DaMeko Williams paid tribute to Coles, describing him as a remarkable individual both on and off the field, known for his kindness and intelligence.
