Jalen Brunson recently revealed a humorous yet surprising anecdote about his father, who happens to be a Knicks assistant coach, heckling him during the NBA All-Star game’s three-point shooting contest.
During the contest, Brunson faced stiff competition from renowned sharpshooters but fell short in the first round, scoring 24 points when he needed 26 to advance. Amid his attempts, he heard someone heckling him, only to realize it was his own father, Rick, behind the bench.
“Some bald guy behind the bench… I heard ‘ayo you f’n bum!'” Brunson recounted on the Roommates Show podcast. “I said, ‘who just said that? My dad.'”

Rick didn’t stop there and continued to playfully tease his son for his performance, joking about shooting bricks and even suggesting they could have used the bonus for finishing their basement.
Despite the playful banter, Rick expressed immense pride in his son’s achievement, acknowledging Jalen’s first-ever All-Star game appearance.
“I love you! Congratulations for making your first All-Star game,” Rick said, showcasing his support and admiration for Jalen’s success.
The humorous exchange sheds light on the close relationship between father and son, highlighting both the competitive spirit and the familial bond shared between them.
In his first game post-All-Star break, Jalen Brunson showcased his talent once again, contributing 21 points and 12 assists in a victory against the Philadelphia 76ers.
