In recent reports, Kevin Maxen, the strength coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, has made a groundbreaking revelation by publicly announcing his sexual orientation as gay.
This makes him the first openly gay male coach in the history of U.S. professional sports.
Speaking to Outsports, Maxen expressed his desire to no longer carry the burden of secrecy and the need to hide his personal relationships.
He stated, “I don’t want to feel like I have to constantly think about it anymore, or lie about who I am seeing or living with.”
Maxen also emphasized his wish to support and encourage individuals to freely live their lives as they choose, without fear of judgment. His coming out not only represents a personal liberation but also aims to inspire others who have struggled with their sexuality for an extended period. Despite his recent revelation, Maxen remains dedicated to his role within the Jags coaching staff, where he joined in 2021.
He expressed his concern about maintaining the positive relationships he has built with players, stating,
“I don’t want my announcement to undermine the connections I have established with them.”
With a lighthearted approach, he shared that he enjoys joking around with the players, maintaining a harmonious atmosphere where personal matters are not taken to heart.
Hopefully we’ll get to a place one day where these announcements become unnecessary.
