Tony Khan, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ chief football strategy officer and the head of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), may face uncertainties regarding his involvement in the 2024 NFL Draft duties following a staged yet dramatic event on AEW Dynamite.
During the live broadcast from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, Khan experienced a scripted physical altercation.
The event unfolded with Tony Khan taking a gut punch and a “Meltzerdriver” piledriver, marking his most significant physical involvement in AEW to date. The realism of the scenario was heightened when Shad Khan, Tony’s father and Jaguars owner, entered the ring to check on him after the incident.
The storyline began with Jack Perry, the son of the late actor Luke Perry, appearing in the ring to ostensibly reconcile with Khan after a real-life suspension had been lifted. Perry had just returned to AEW following a legitimate backstage fight with fellow wrestler CM Punk, which resulted in Punk’s departure from the company. However, the reconciliation was quickly revealed as part of the act when Perry struck Khan with a microphone.
The plot thickened as the Young Bucks, a tag team comprised of brothers Matt and Nick Jackson—who also serve as executive vice presidents of AEW—and top singles wrestler Kazuchika Okada, appeared to scold Perry. This too was a deception, as Matt Jackson then set Khan up for Nick to execute a high-flying Meltzerdriver.
While the move was part of the scripted drama, and Khan was safely executed by the experienced Bucks, the spectacle left fans shocked and questioning Khan’s readiness for his upcoming NFL Draft responsibilities.
