Thursday marked an unforgettable day for Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. He kicked off the day by tying the knot with his longtime girlfriend, and then he etched his name in MLB history books.
Acuña achieved a grand slam against the Los Angeles Dodgers, becoming the first player ever to achieve the remarkable feat of stealing 60 bases and hitting 30 home runs in a single season.
While this milestone almost certainly secures his claim to the National League MVP award, it was perhaps the second-best part of his day.
In a private and intimate morning ceremony, Acuña and his now-wife Maria Laborde exchanged vows.
The couple has shared their lives for several years and is blessed with two children. Like Acuña, Maria Laborde hails from Venezuela and previously won the Miss Teen Carabobo pageant in 2015 in their home country.
“We’re a family,” Acuña shared with ESPN. “Since we first met, we’ve always wanted to be together. We now have two kids. Family is meant to be together, and that takes precedence over everything else. I’m truly ecstatic that it’s finally happening.”
With Laborde’s Venezuelan visa set to expire at the end of the week, their official marriage ensures that the family can stay united, no matter where Acuña’s baseball journey leads him, both for the remainder of this season and beyond.
