Instagram model Brittany Renner has come under fire for allegedly mocking Islam after posting a video of herself wearing a hijab.
Renner, widely known for her past relationship with NBA star PJ Washington, sparked outrage on social media with her new look, which contrasts sharply with her usually provocative wardrobe.
The 32-year-old, who has not publicly announced whether she has converted to Islam, first revealed her new style in a video message titled “Trust Your Wings,” where she spoke about trusting ‘signs’ from the universe.
In a subsequent Instagram video, Renner discussed updating her wardrobe, writing: “I am going to enjoy every moment of this walk of mine.”

Renner mentioned she is unsure how her new look will align with her contractual obligations, as she is paid to model clothing from brands marketed as ‘sexy,’ such as Fashion Nova. She also noted considering Botox treatments under her arms to prevent sweating, given the challenges of maintaining a modest look in hot weather.
“Manifesting a new wardrobe… Inshallah,” she said, using the Arabic phrase for ‘God willing,’ which offended many commentators.
One angry comment read: “Girl, you not Muslim, don’t piss me off.”
Another added: “I feel like she is making a mockery…”
A third said: “STOP DISRESPECTING MY RELIGION!!!!!!!! Islam isn’t a marketing strategy, a way to get in the blogs or a way to gain attention!!! It’s a way of life and I would appreciate if you wouldn’t disrespect the hijab. If you were serious you would delete or archive your photos uncovered!”
Renner rose to prominence following her relationship with Washington and has often made headlines for various controversial statements. She and NBA star Washington, 25, started dating in 2020 but broke up the following year, with Washington posting a vague tweet about someone “faking it all along.” The pair share a child, and Renner has been linked with other celebrities, including James Harden and Lil Uzi Vert.
Renner told Akademiks that she and Washington met when she was 26 years old, while he was playing at the University of Kentucky. Washington has earned over $17 million in his professional career and signed a three-year, $48 million extension with the Charlotte Hornets last summer.
Renner also made headlines last year when she was spotted dining with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in Beverly Hills.
The pair were caught by paparazzi entering a restaurant, where they dined together and were seen laughing and joking. Despite the buzz, TMZ reported that “there was nothing romantic going on” between them.
Renner’s recent actions have sparked significant backlash, with many accusing her of using Islam as a marketing strategy rather than a genuine religious commitment.
