Hunter Renfrow is likely one of the happiest individuals with Josh McDaniels no longer serving as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Among the Raiders’ players, Hunter Renfrow stands out as someone who has perhaps the most reason to celebrate Josh McDaniels’ departure. Before McDaniels’ tenure in Las Vegas, Renfrow had an impressive season with over 1,000 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. However, his role in the offense took a hit in 2022, concluding the season with just 330 yards and two touchdowns.

During a media session on Thursday, Renfrow expressed his enthusiasm about Antonio Pierce taking on the role of interim coach for the Raiders. His primary source of excitement stems from no longer feeling the need to “walk on eggshells” in the locker room and on the field.
Renfrow stated, “I think (Pierce) just let us kind of be ourselves and let our hair down,” Renfrow said. “Just have fun playing football again and not just walk on eggshells everywhere. Just go out there and enjoy playing like we’re kids.”
However, Renfrow attempted to clarify his “walking on eggshells” comment shortly after making it:
“There were things McDaniels did really well,” Renfrow explained. “I’m not going to sit here and say he was a bad coach, because he was very good and had success as an [offensive coordinator] and that sort of deal. But I think with AP, being a player and just having a different energy is just different.”
Renfrow and the Raiders aim to commence Antonio Pierce’s coaching tenure with a victory this Sunday against the Giants. Creating an atmosphere where players don’t feel like they are walking on eggshells is undoubtedly a crucial aspect of success in professional sports.
