Hubert Davis, the North Carolina coach, expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s performance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
During his in-game interview with CBS, Davis didn’t mince words about his team’s lackluster start against Michigan State, trailing 26-14 roughly ten minutes into the game. Despite narrowing the gap to 28-20 by the under-8 media timeout, Davis remained discontent.
During the obligatory interview, when CBS reporter Allie LaForce began addressing Michigan State’s dominance in the paint, Davis interrupted, emphasizing his team’s need to toughen up and confront their challenges head-on.
He stated, “They’re tougher. They’re catching the ball right underneath the basket. Until we meet the fight, that’s when things will turn around.”

Davis’s words seemed to have an immediate impact as North Carolina rallied, ending the half with a remarkable 20-3 run, seizing a nine-point lead by halftime. Known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve since taking the helm in 2021, Davis’s candidness not only fired up his team but also provided a moment of levity amidst the intensity of the game.
