Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell recently opened up about the Florida nightclub shooting in April that resulted in his injury.
Speaking on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, Dell described the incident as being at the ‘wrong place at the wrong time.’
“First off, I’m blessed, you know,” Dell remarked during Monday’s episode. He explained that he had gone back to visit his mother and had not initially planned to attend the local pool party. “But my boys saw that I was home, so they hit me up and was like ‘pull up to the party.’ They told me there was going to be security, people getting checked at the door, stuff like that. So, I’m like, ‘All right, cool.’ It was a good vibe, a lot of people I know were there, and then it just popped off out of nowhere.”

A 16-year-old has been charged with attempted homicide and other offenses following the April 28 incident that injured 10 people.
Dell recalled the chaotic moments for the podcast listeners, “I thought I removed myself from the situation. You can see on the video, when I ran across I thought I removed myself from the little situation of the altercation when they were fighting, but I actually put myself in the middle of two people, and it just went crazy.”
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, as reported by ESPN, Dell expressed that he has fully recovered from the ‘scary’ ordeal and participated fully in Houston’s minicamp. “It definitely changed my perspective of things. Just being around the right group of guys and being in the right situations. Not only for myself but for my family because I don’t want to put myself in that type of position. And especially my family, like I have a little brother, my mom, I know how they were feeling at that time. It’s just a blessing that I’m safe, but it’s a traumatic experience overall,” he shared.
His teammate, C.J. Stroud, who appeared with him on the podcast, also shared his initial reaction upon hearing the news. “All I read was ‘Tank got shot’ and I just dropped my phone, I start tearing up man. You know, when you hear that, you start thinking the worst,” Stroud recalled, adding that it was a moment of realization for him about the dangers of falling back into old routines.
