Shane Lowry was enjoying a strong second round at the British Open on Friday when disaster struck on the 11th hole at Royal Troon.
The Irish golfer lost his two-stroke lead with a double bogey, a setback that began with an unfortunate second shot from the rough that landed in the gorse.
Lowry’s troubles were compounded by a confrontation with a photographer. As Lowry prepared to hit his shot, he noticed the photographer adjusting his camera. Distracted and frustrated, Lowry didn’t hold back. “As I was over the ball I could just see you putting your f—–‘ camera up,” he snapped. “Just get outta the way. Just get back there. F— sake!”

Following the errant shot, Lowry had to take an unplayable lie, which led to a lengthy delay. He spent over 20 minutes consulting with officials to determine where he could take his drop after his ball was found in the dense gorse.
Once he resumed play, his next shot landed just short of the green. Lowry then managed to get up and down for a six on the par-4, dropping him into a tie for the lead with Daniel Brown at 5 under.
This incident not only disrupted Lowry’s rhythm but also highlighted the pressures and distractions professional golfers face during major tournaments. Despite the setback, Lowry’s ability to salvage a double bogey after such a challenging situation demonstrated his resilience and skill.
As the tournament continues, fans will be watching to see if he can regain his composure and reclaim his lead.
