Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, can now add “recruiting expert” to his impressive list of titles. His sincere recruitment efforts may have been the clincher in securing the team’s latest free agency signing.
The Chiefs created waves this offseason by securing wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown with a contract agreement.
Brown celebrated his transition to Kansas City by sharing an edited image on Instagram, donning the Chiefs’ uniform. He also shared a screenshot of a text message exchange with Reid.
In the message, Reid wrote to Brown, “Hollywood, think Red today, KC Red with diamonds!!! Andy Reid,” accompanied by some emojis.
Brown responded enthusiastically, “Yessir love the sound of that. Think Hollywood Brown. Lights, Camera, Action.”
Before the official announcement, Brown had hinted at a potential move to the Chiefs through his social media activity.
With Brown’s addition, Chiefs fans are optimistic that the team’s receiving corps, which struggled significantly in the 2023 season, will receive a much-needed boost.
Coming off a less productive year with the Arizona Cardinals, where he amassed 574 receiving yards, Brown’s performance still ranked second on the team, just behind tight end Trey McBride. Despite the downturn, Brown managed to lead the Cardinals with 4 receiving touchdowns across 14 games.
Brown’s standout season occurred during his final year with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, where he recorded 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and 6 touchdowns, showcasing his potential impact on the Chiefs’ offense.
