The deadliest U.S. wildfires in over a century have left Maui devastated.
The official death count has now reached 93, and Hawaii Governor Josh Green estimates that the damages could cost up to $6 billion, with 2,200 buildings damaged or destroyed.
Marcus Mariota, a native of Honolulu, expressed his sorrow for the situation, stating, “My heart goes out to them – everybody back home.”
“My heart goes out to them – everybody back home,” Mariota told reporters, per Josh Tolentino of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Hawaii is such a small place, such a small community, that everybody has family or friends that have been affected by it.”

Being from a close-knit community, Mariota believes that nearly everyone knows someone affected by the tragedy.
Mariota, the first Hawaii-born player to win the Heisman Trophy, has always been dedicated to giving back to his community through his Motiv8 Foundation.
Recently, the foundation collaborated with his alma mater to offer local youth the opportunity to attend a football game between Oregon and Hawaii.
However, thousands of residents remain displaced, making this the most significant natural disaster Hawaii has ever faced, according to Governor Green.
Mariota, urging those who are able to contribute, emphasized the severity of the situation and expressed his appreciation for the support. “I just appreciate the love and support and always think about them whenever I’m away,” he added.
Praying for Maui.
