Harrison Butker, the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, recently reacted strongly to a segment of the Olympics Opening Ceremony in Paris that featured a group of drag queens.
The segment, which was part of a runway show highlighting Parisian fashion, included a tableau reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” with drag queens positioned similarly to Jesus and his Twelve Apostles.
Butker expressed his disapproval on social media, posting a screenshot of the scene on his Instagram Stories with the caption, “This is crazy.”
He further underscored his discontent by citing a biblical verse, Galatians 6:7, which reads, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked.”

As a devout Catholic, Butker’s views on such matters have been well-documented. He recently faced significant backlash for a commencement speech he delivered at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. During this speech, Butker articulated his belief that women receiving their degrees were most looking forward to becoming homemakers, rather than pursuing professional careers.
“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you,” Butker stated in his speech. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say that her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
Butker’s comments during the speech also touched on broader social issues, including what he described as “people pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America.” This phrase is often used by anti-LGBTQ activists to question the existence and legitimacy of transgender and gender-diverse individuals, a stance that organizations like GLAAD have repeatedly criticized as harmful and misleading.
The kicker’s recent remarks regarding the Olympics Opening Ceremony and his previous comments at Benedictine College have sparked considerable debate. Supporters argue that Butker is entitled to express his religious and personal beliefs.
However, critics contend that his views contribute to a broader narrative of intolerance and undermine efforts toward inclusivity and acceptance within both sports and society at large.
The incident has once again highlighted the ongoing cultural and ideological clashes over issues of gender, sexuality, and religious belief, with public figures like Butker often finding themselves at the center of these contentious debates.
