Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen nearly jinxed his relationship with actress Hailee Steinfeld with an unusual Christmas gift last year. Steinfeld recently opened up in her newsletter about the “bad omen” surrounding the present Allen gave her for Christmas in 2023.
Steinfeld explained that she and Allen both share a love for cooking, which inspired their gift exchange. “I got this knife for Josh last year for Christmas because cooking is something we love to do together,” she wrote.
However, what made the exchange unique was that Allen ended up buying her the exact same knife, just in a different color.
She continued, “For Christmas, he got me… the same one in a different colorway!” But after the exchange, Allen revealed an unexpected twist. “He told me there’s an old wive’s tale that if you gift your significant other a knife, you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship. So we exchanged quarters to avoid the bad omen,” Steinfeld shared.
The couple’s solution to the superstition involved them exchanging quarters to prevent any negative vibes from entering their relationship.
Despite the potential “jinx,” Steinfeld expressed her love for the knife. “Oh my God, I love this knife! I don’t know much about chef’s knives, but it is just so nice and makes me feel official,” she wrote.
The knife, which costs around $430, might seem like a pricey gift for some, but it’s pocket change for Allen, who signed a six-year, $258 million deal with the Buffalo Bills.
The quarterback, considered one of the NFL’s elite players, has been dating Steinfeld since last year, and their relationship has garnered significant attention from fans and the media alike.
