World No.1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is set to participate in the upcoming US PGA Championship at Valhalla, following the birth of his first child with wife Meredith.
While there has been no formal announcement from Team Scheffler, a tweet from Sports Illustrated reporter Bob Harig confirmed the news of the baby’s arrival this afternoon.
Scheffler, known for keeping his personal life private and not being active on social media, had mentioned during his Masters victory last month that the baby was due in about three weeks, suggesting a delivery window of last week or this week.
Earlier reports from the Dallas Morning News indicated that Scheffler was on baby watch, and Harig’s recent tweet reassured fans that Scheffler would indeed be teeing off in the second major of the season. Harig included the hashtag #babyborn in his update.

Additionally, Scheffler had previously stated his intention to withdraw from tournament play if Meredith went into labor during an event, as was the case with this week’s Wells Fargo Championship where he was notably absent. He has also expressed plans to take some time off from the PGA Tour following the birth.
With his recent series of victories, including four wins in his last five starts and a Masters title, Scheffler is favored to win at Valhalla. He is currently listed at 7/2 odds, making him a leading contender for the title. Rory McIlroy follows at 10/1 as he aims for his fifth major, and Brooks Koepka from LIV Golf, who won the US PGA in 2019, is also in the mix.
The anticipation for Scheffler’s potential back-to-back major wins is high, especially with odds placing him at 50/1 to achieve a grand slam in 2024.
