It seems another NFL player made his move long before Travis Kelce.
Golden Tate recalls a moment when Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez were in town, bringing an extra spring to his step. The former Biletnikoff Award-winning wide receiver from Notre Dame vividly remembers the day he decided to shoot his shot with the international superstar during practice. This move reportedly angered Brian Kelly.
The tale unfolded in a peculiar series on X (formerly known as Twitter), sparked by the resurfacing of Travis Kelce’s 2014 post. Many of his old posts resurfaced throughout the week, setting off a chain of events.
A Boston College fansite affiliated with S.B. Nation hinted that Travis Kelce might support the Eagles, drawing on an old tweet from Taylor Swift.
The suggestion stirred excitement among Boston College fans. However, this notion did not sit well with Notre Dame fans, who considered Taylor Swift as one of their own, given her brother’s attendance at the university. The animosity towards Boston College, a rival, further fueled their displeasure.
A notable image from college football lore features Swift and Selena Gomez on the sidelines during a Fighting Irish game, particularly the Purdue game in 2010. Despite a slight misjudgment of the exact day by Robby Toma, who played at Notre Dame from 2009 to 2012, the photo triggered a humorous recollection involving Golden Tate.
Toma reminisced about a time when Swift visited one of their practices and recounted the amusing tale of Golden Tate making his move during a team period. Coach Kelly’s disapproval added an extra layer to the entertaining anecdote.
Tate, with an 11-year NFL career, confirmed Toma’s story. The 35-year-old vividly recalls his ambitious goal of inviting Swift to dinner, even envisioning it within his meal plan.
He reminisced, saying, “I remember it like yesterday. Probably my best practice of the year. Every pass I caught on her side, I made sure finished as if it was a TD. I had dreams of taking her to South dining hall!”
Tate has since settled into married life with three children, while Swift is currently in a relationship with Kelce. It seems Tate may have set the precedent for NFL players making their moves on Swift.
