Giulia Gwinn, a player for Bayern Munich women’s team, made a difficult decision when she turned down an offer from Playboy magazine for a photoshoot.
The publication was looking for a German player with a strong influence on fans, and they offered Giulia a substantial amount of money.
However, she declined the offer in order to avoid any potential negative publicity that could jeopardize her chances of making it to the final squad for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, set to be held in Australia and New Zealand.
“Giulia Gwinn is not only an outstanding athlete, but also a beautiful young woman,” Florian Boitin, the editor-in-chief of the German edition of Playboy said of the offer. “So a personality like her is naturally interesting for Playboy.”
Unfortunately, Giulia’s hopes of participating in the World Cup were dashed as she was unable to fully recover from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in October 2022.
Part of her statement read, “Actually being fit and still not having a chance to recommend myself for one of the World Cup places. You can be sad and disappointed for a few days, but then you should definitely be proud of the further successfully completed rehabilitation!”
Despite her efforts to rehabilitate in time for the tournament, she was not able to achieve a complete recovery, resulting in her exclusion from the final squad of the German Women’s National Team. Giulia announced this disappointing news to her 528,000 followers on Instagram.
She expressed her sadness and disappointment at not being able to represent her country in the World Cup but also mentioned her pride in the extensive recovery efforts she had put forth.
The German women’s national team squad for the World Cup was announced at the end of May.
