Iowa alumni and San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle, alongside his wife Claire, had the pleasure of meeting Hawkeyes standout Caitlin Clark on Monday night.
Both Kittle and Claire, proud University of Iowa alumni, witnessed their alma mater’s triumph over West Virginia in the second round of March Madness.
Clark and the Hawkeyes secured a decisive 64-54 victory against the Mountaineers, earning their spot in the Sweet 16 showdown against Colorado slated for Saturday.

During this historic win, Clark cemented her name in NCAA women’s basketball lore by setting the single-season point scoring record, amassing an impressive 1,113 points, surpassing former Washington Huskies guard Kelsey Plum’s record.
Following her remarkable achievement, the guard graciously took the time to meet with the 49ers’ tight end and his wife. A photo shared by the NFL’s official X account captured the trio in what seemed to be a physiotherapy room at the arena.
In the snapshot, Clark donned her Iowa uniform, her hair pulled back into a ponytail, while Kittle proudly sported a yellow Hawkeyes jersey, featuring his wife’s former No. 3 on the back, over a grey long-sleeved top. Claire, a former member of the Iowa women’s basketball team herself, exuded chic casualness in black cargo trousers and a fitted long-sleeved t-shirt.
Despite Clark still having a year of eligibility remaining due to the Covid year granted to all NCAA athletes, she declared for the draft earlier this month. Her decision to transition to the WNBA came after surpassing Pete Maravich to become the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, solidifying her status as the consensus No. 1 overall pick, with the Indiana Fever signaling their intent to select her with the top pick.
For Kittle and Claire, Iowa holds a special place in their hearts as the couple first met at the college and began their relationship during their freshman year. Claire, a former member of the Iowa women’s basketball team, played for the Hawkeyes throughout her four years, averaging 1.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
Her basketball journey began during her time at Wahlert Catholic High School, where she became the school’s third all-time leading scorer and earned a nomination as a McDonald’s All-American.
After getting engaged in 2018, the couple chose to elope and currently reside in Nashville, Tennessee, during the NFL offseason.
