Unless there’s an unexpected change of heart from either party, it appears that the Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor are on track to part ways before this year’s trade deadline.
The 24-year-old star running back expressed his desire for a trade from the Colts earlier in the summer after a meeting with team owner Jim Irsay.
The Colts explored trade possibilities for the 2021 rushing champion leading up to Week 1, but they didn’t find any suitable trade offers.

Given that Taylor is in the final year of his contract and the Colts have shown little interest in a long-term extension, it appears logical for the 2020 second-round draft pick to be traded to a contender before the 2023 deadline.
BetOnline has provided betting odds for Taylor’s next team in the event of a trade by the Colts. The Baltimore Ravens, led by Lamar Jackson, have the best odds at +300, followed by the Arizona Cardinals (+400), Chicago Bears (+500), and Miami Dolphins (+500).
Two weeks ago, ESPN’s Stephen Holder reported that the Colts had inquired about acquiring superstar wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins in a potential Taylor trade. However, it was clear that the Dolphins were not inclined to make such a deal.
The Colts placed Taylor on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list before Week 1, which automatically ruled him out for the team’s first four games. The earliest possible return for Taylor is in Week 5 when the Colts face the Tennessee Titans.
Indianapolis, currently at 0-1, is scheduled to play against the AFC South rival Houston Texans (0-1) this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EST.
