Fox Sports’ Chris Broussard has criticized the media response to physical play in the WNBA, particularly involving Caitlin Clark, as racially biased.
During the latest edition of the “Odd Couple” podcast, Broussard addressed the incident where Chennedy Carter pushed Clark to the ground during a game between the Sky and Liberty, which became a focal point in discussions about the treatment of White players in the league.
Following the incident, the Chicago Tribune published an opinion piece that characterized Carter’s actions as “assault” if they had occurred outside of sports.

Broussard challenged the narrative that Clark is receiving extra protection or attention because of her race, comparing her situation to other prominent White players in the WNBA like Diana Taurasi, Breanna Stewart, and Sue Bird, who he noted have not been similarly ‘championed’.
However, Broussard did highlight instances he perceives as racial bias, such as the decision to invite Iowa’s basketball team, which Clark played for, to the White House despite their loss to LSU.
He described this as a racially motivated decision given the team’s predominantly White composition. Broussard criticized the Tribune’s portrayal of Clark, suggesting it fed into racial stereotypes by depicting her as a “princess” needing protection from “wild things”.
Broussard concluded that while Clark, like any rookie, is subject to physical play, the media’s focus on her stems from her stardom rather than a racial agenda. He condemned the Tribune’s approach as “ridiculous” and “racist,” arguing that it unfairly highlighted Clark’s experiences while ignoring similar challenges faced by other players like Angel Reese.
