Recently appointed Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo is facing criticism for his remarks on racism, particularly from Fox News, which labeled him the “new woke coach.”
Mayo, the first black head coach in Patriots history, made the comments during his introductory press conference, stating that he does “see color” as it helps him address racism in everyday situations.
Mayo expressed, “I do see color because I believe if you don’t see color, you can’t see racism. Whatever happens, Black, White, disabled person, I’ve always, you know for the most part people are all like ‘don’t.’ When they’re young they kind of make the spot hot. What I would say is ‘no, I want you to be able to go up to those people and really understand those people.'”

He emphasized the importance of acknowledging differences to address the existing problems related to race. However, Mayo’s comments sparked outrage on Fox News, where he was criticized as the “new woke coach” across various shows.
In reality, Jerod Mayo’s comments on race are commendable, aiming to foster understanding and address racial issues. The criticism on Fox News is seen by some as an attempt to generate content and cater to a specific fanbase through fake outrage.
