Dornoch clinched victory in the 156th Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, on Saturday, transforming a former World Series champion into a victorious horse racing owner.
Jayson Werth, a 2009 All-Star for the Philadelphia Phillies and part-owner of Dornoch, was hard to miss in the crowd with his towering 6-foot-5 frame, flowing hair, and prominent hat.

Werth, a member of the Phillies’ 2008 World Series-winning team, equated the thrill of his Belmont Stakes victory as an owner to that of clinching the World Series as a player.
“It ranks right up there with the biggest moments. Horse racing is tremendously underrated, the most in the world, without a doubt. It’s the pinnacle of the sport; there’s nothing better in horse racing, or in sports in general,” Werth shared with FOX Sports reporter Charissa Thompson.
Dornoch entered the race with 17-1 odds, the longest odds for a Belmont Stakes winner since 2011.
