It seems Blake Proehl has discovered his true passion.
The former wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, and son of longtime Panthers receiver Ricky Proehl, recently showcased his talent on the ABC reality show American Idol, earning a ticket to Hollywood.
Performing “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young, Proehl wowed judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, delivering a stellar performance that earned applause from all three judges and high praise.
“If you will allow us to be your coaches, you’re gonna be top 10,” remarked Perry, while Richie noted, “I wrote one thing down that stood out. Natural.”
Proehl’s audition was so moving that it even brought Katy Perry to tears.

During the audition, Proehl also shared about his brief football career with the Minnesota Vikings, where he spent time on the practice squad and injured reserve.
Afterward, Perry requested his autograph, expressing her belief in his promising singing career.
Prior to his stint on American Idol, Proehl played college football for East Carolina University before transitioning to the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. However, it was during his rehabilitation from injury that Proehl discovered his passion for music, eventually releasing his first single titled “Falling Into You” in 2022.
While he is not retired from football, Proehl remains hopeful for a future contract and the opportunity to compete for a spot on a 53-man roster during training camp.
