Reggie Bush, the former star running back from USC, is taking legal action against the NCAA by filing a lawsuit.
Multiple reports suggest that Bush intends to sue the collegiate sports federation for defamation.
The basis for the lawsuit is a statement made by an NCAA spokesperson in 2021, accusing Bush of involvement in a “pay-for-play arrangement.”
ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura reported that Bush will officially file the defamation lawsuit tomorrow.

The spokesperson’s statement mentioned that although college athletes can now benefit from their names, images, and likenesses through endorsements and appearances, the NCAA still prohibits pay-for-play arrangements.
“Although college athletes can now receive benefits from their names, images and likenesses through activities like endorsements and appearances, NCAA rules still do not permit pay-for-play type arrangements.
The NCAA infractions process exists to promote fairness in college sports. The rules that govern fair play are voted on, agreed to and expected to be upheld by all NCAA member schools.”
The NCAA’s goal is to maintain fairness in college sports through its infractions process and uphold rules agreed upon by member schools. While it remains uncertain whether Bush’s lawsuit against the NCAA has merit, many are supportive of his cause.
The controversy surrounding athletes earning income from their name, image, and likeness should not have been an issue in the first place.
