Just before the NFL playoffs’ divisional round, former Oakland Raiders CEO Amy Trask took a swipe at San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
“Four games. Eight quarterbacks. Seven terrific quarterbacks, and Brock Purdy,” Trask remarked. “Now Brock Purdy is a good quarterback, make no mistake about it. Be calm, 49ers fans. I’m not suggesting Brock’s not a good quarterback. He is. I simply don’t put him in the same category as the other quarterbacks.”
Trask faced significant criticism for her comments after Purdy orchestrated a game-winning drive in the divisional round. The former “Mr. Irrelevant” continued to silence doubters by overcoming a 24-7 halftime deficit in the NFC Championship Game.
In contrast to some steadfast analysts, Trask offered an apology for her earlier remarks about Purdy.
“I’ve been thinking quite a bit about my comment about @brockpurdy13 – irrespective of the substance of that which I shared (and I’ve already noted repeatedly that he did what the best do, he got the job done), I shared my thoughts flippantly and rudely, and I apologize,” Trask conveyed on X.
“The best advice I have ever received is ‘to thine own self be true,’ and I was not true to myself when I spoke flippantly and rudely, and I am sorry that I did – some will still be angry at me for the thoughts I shared, I am apologizing not for them, but to be true to myself.”

Trask’s message reflects a classy acknowledgment of her misstep.
Even if Purdy guides the 49ers to their first Super Bowl title since 1994, there will always be critics questioning his capabilities. Trask, however, won’t be one of them.
