The current media landscape allows almost anyone to express their opinions, and this became evident on Thursday when CBS NFL reporter Amy Trask made an amusing claim that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was not on the same level as the other seven quarterbacks in the NFC Playoffs.
Trask bluntly stated, “We have four games this week. That means we have eight quarterbacks, I did that math all by myself. Good girl. Four games, eight quarterbacks, seven terrific quarterbacks, and Brock Purdy. Now, Brock Purdy is a good quarterback. Make no mistake about it, everybody be calm. 49er fans, I’m not suggesting Brock’s not a good quarterback. He is. I simply don’t put him in the same category as the other quarterbacks. So I’ll say it again. Eight quarterbacks, seven terrific quarterbacks, and Brock Purdy.”
This perspective raised eyebrows. While acknowledging that Purdy had an elite supporting cast, the claim that he’s not on the same tier as quarterbacks like Jordan Love, Jared Goff, and Baker Mayfield sparked debate.

Purdy has an impressive NFL record, winning games and posting efficient passing numbers. Including the playoffs, the second-year player from Iowa State boasts an 18-5 record as a starter, with 48 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and a passer rating well over 100.
During much of this season, Purdy was a favorite for the MVP title, leading a talented 49ers offense. Despite a setback against the Ravens in Week 16, he finished the season with notable stats, including 31 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and leading the league in passer rating, QBR, and yards per attempt.
The criticism suggesting he’s not on par with quarterbacks like Love and Mayfield, despite his success and contributions, appears unfounded. The 49ers’ upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round provides Purdy with an opportunity to prove these critics wrong, as the continued disrespect persists despite his track record as a winning starting quarterback in his short career.
