Former NFL wide receiver Randall Cobb recently discussed his hopes for his children’s future in sports during a podcast with ex-NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan.
While Cobb cherishes his time at the University of Kentucky, he expressed reservations about his children playing football.
“I would love for them to follow my footsteps at Kentucky,” Cobb stated. “But I also don’t want my kids to play football either. I’m trying to steer them towards soccer, tennis, or golf. I took all the hits and all that possible CTE, so they could have the chance to do something else.”

Cobb mentioned that if his children eventually choose to play football on their own, he would support their decision, but he would prefer they not pursue it professionally. “If they decide to play football later in life, then I might let them around high school age, but they’re not playing professionally. They can play flag football—that’s my stance.”
This perspective is not uncommon among former NFL players who are wary of the physical toll the sport can take.
