General Booty is headed elsewhere to finish out his college career.
A native of Shreveport and the son of former LSU receiver Abram Booty, General Booty has announced his commitment to the University of Louisiana Monroe.
He tweeted, “I’m excited to go to work with my new teammates at The University of Louisiana Monroe! I’m coming home!”
Booty spent two seasons in Norman with the Sooners after transferring to Oklahoma in May 2022 from Tyler Junior College.
Booty played in two games for the Sooners. The first was during the 2022 TCU game amid Oklahoma’s repeated quarterback injuries, and the second was in last year’s season opener against Arkansas State. Neither appearance resulted in any recorded statistics for Booty.
In high school, Booty played at four different schools in Texas and California and was a three-star recruit in the class of 2021.
Sooners head coach Brent Venables was intrigued by General Booty after he passed for 3,115 yards and 25 touchdowns in his lone junior college season, leading the NJCAA in both categories, according to Nakos of On3. Venables needed stability in his quarterback room, which led to Booty’s transfer to Oklahoma.
Booty will have two seasons of eligibility remaining, which attracted many programs once he entered the transfer portal.
After entering the transfer portal this offseason, multiple Group of Five programs reached out. Pete Nakos of On3 reported that ULM and Samford were the final contenders, although Tulsa and UTSA also showed interest.
Additionally, Booty was in contact with one Power Five program throughout his recruitment and was given the opportunity to serve as Cade McNamara’s backup at Iowa this season, with a chance to compete for the starting position in 2025.
