On Monday night, Strawberry, renowned for his time with the Mets and Yankees, experienced a heart attack, a development he shared with fans. Spending his 62nd birthday under medical care, Strawberry took to Instagram to share a photo from his hospital bed, reassuring followers: “I am so happy and honored to report that all is well.”

Strawberry’s baseball journey is storied; drafted by the Mets as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1980 draft, he made an immediate impact, earning National League Rookie of the Year honors in his debut season. His career saw eight All-Star appearances and numerous accolades.
However, Strawberry has faced health challenges over the years, likely stemming from past struggles with substance abuse. He battled colon cancer in 1998, undergoing chemotherapy, and in 2000, he underwent surgery to remove a tumor near his kidney.
Over 17 seasons in the majors, from 1983 to 1999, Strawberry left an indelible mark, playing for teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and New York Yankees following his tenure with the Mets.
