If you’ve been eager for another dose of Taylor Swift NFL talk, then you’re in luck with this story!
Former San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner stirred controversy with his recent remarks suggesting that Super Bowl LVIII was rigged in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs. Speaking on “Up & Adams,” Whitner claimed that the 49ers faced not only the Chiefs but also singer Taylor Swift and the game officials.
According to Whitner, upon reviewing the game film, he observed instances where the officials seemed to overlook blatant infractions, particularly bear hugs on defensive ends. He implied that the 49ers were at a disadvantage due to these alleged officiating biases.
And naturally, he couldn’t resist throwing Taylor Swift under the bus, blaming her as well.

“When we think about the Super Bowl as well, I think that the 49ers played against the refs as well, guys. I think that when we look at that film and you see bear hugs on those defensive ends, right? And you really see it at blatant moments in the game,” Whitner said. “The 49ers played against Taylor Swift, the refs and the Kansas City Chiefs.”
However, Whitner’s comments were met with criticism from fans on social media, who accused him of making excuses for his former team’s loss.
Some labeled his perspective as indicative of a “loser mentality,” emphasizing that the Chiefs emerged victorious because they played the game skillfully and understood the rules.
Despite the controversy, it’s clear that the 49ers had ample opportunities to secure victory during Super Bowl LVIII. However, their failure to capitalize on these chances ultimately led to their defeat in overtime.
Thus, attributing the outcome solely to officiating decisions and Taylor Swift overlooks the broader context of the game.
