Aaron Rodgers’ unconventional use of hallucinogens might just yield positive results.
In 2022, Aaron Rodgers publicly spoke about his profound self-discovery while using ayahuasca, a psychedelic beverage he has endorsed over the past year.
During the recent offseason, Rodgers made headlines when he embarked on a journey to a darkness retreat to contemplate whether he should retire or continue his football career. Ultimately, he expressed his desire to play for the New York Jets.
His wish was granted, but it was a short-lived reunion with the field, lasting a mere four minutes of game time before he suffered a torn Achilles that prematurely ended his season.
According to Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez, Rodgers’ foray into ayahuasca and the darkness retreat has equipped him mentally to overcome this setback.
“This is why you do the ayahuasca and the darkness retreat. It isn’t just for the good times; it’s for the bad times,” Gonzalez said before Thursday Night Football tonight. “He is mentally prepared to tackle this mountain, because it’s going to be a mountain for him. I can’t wait to see him back out there on that field next year and maybe go for a Super Bowl run.”
Rodgers will turn 40 in December, and he recently posted on Instagram with an aura of someone planning to return for at least one more season.
“I’m completely heartbroken and navigating through a spectrum of emotions, but deeply moved and grateful for the support and love,” Rodgers wrote. “Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I embark on the healing process today. The night is darkest before the dawn. And I shall rise yet again.”
Before his injury, Rodgers had expressed his intention to play for multiple years with the Jets. He is under contract through 2025 and is set to receive $38 million in guarantees in 2024.
The four-time NFL MVP now faces several months of intensive rehabilitation to regain his physical form.
