In October 2022, former NBA guard Nate Robinson disclosed publicly that he was undergoing treatment for kidney failure.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, now 39-year-old Robinson shared the urgency of his situation, revealing that without a new kidney, his time is limited. He emphasized that without the aid of a dialysis machine, his survival would be measured in mere weeks.
‘I know that I don’t have long if I can’t get a kidney,’ Robinson exclusively told Mail Sport. ‘I know I’m not going to have long to live. So I just want to make the best of it as much as I can.

“Some people’s bodies reject dialysis. And thank God that mine accepts it and I can live… if I didn’t go to dialysis, I wouldn’t live probably longer than a week or two. So it’s serious, can’t miss a day. I go in for four hours, three days a week, four hours a day. And they clean my blood to get my toxins out. And they help me out a lot because that’s how I’m living.”
Robinson also disclosed previous hospitalizations due to intense and painful vomiting episodes.
Apart from relying on dialysis for survival, the three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion highlighted the dietary adjustments he’s had to implement.
“It’s a whole regimen you have to follow,” Robinson elaborated. “You have to measure everything you eat and drink. You can’t have too much, you can’t have too little.
“I changed my diet, just trying to eat better, steering clear of processed foods, opting for fruits, grilled chicken, and grilled fish—healthier choices to prolong my survival.”
Robinson, known for his tenure with eight NBA franchises over 11 seasons from 2005-2015, has been battling kidney disease for four years.
Sending Nate heartfelt wishes and strength as he faces this incredibly challenging journey.
