Former NBA guard Terrence Ross issued a strong message to U.S. politicians following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Ross criticized politicians who make inflammatory statements during political cycles and then act surprised when violent incidents, like the shooting at Trump’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania, occur.
“What’s happening to our country? Our government and politicians divide us, then act shocked when things go too far,” Ross wrote on X. “It shouldn’t be red vs blue. It should be us vs them. We have more in common than any of these politicians who are supposed to be our voice. Enough.”

The veteran guard, who recently retired from the NBA, was among several sports figures who reacted to the attempt on the former president’s life.
Ross was a first-round draft pick out of Washington in 2012, selected No. 8 overall by the Toronto Raptors. He played more than four years with Toronto before being traded to the Orlando Magic.
He spent the majority of his career with the Magic, from 2016 to the middle of the 2022-23 season. During his final season in the league, he played the latter half with the Phoenix Suns.
In 733 career games, Ross averaged 11 points per game and won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2013. His recent comments reflect a broader frustration with the current political climate and a call for unity amidst division.
