Kendrick Perkins recently voiced his concerns on ESPN’s “NBA Today” about the network’s extensive coverage of Bronny James, LeBron James’ son, as he makes his way towards the NBA.
Perkins, a former teammate and competitor of LeBron, urged his fellow analysts to broaden their focus beyond Bronny. “Let me say this… we have to stop. We have to stop as the media and everybody else shining a light on Bronny because there are other players that are deserving of our attention,” he stated.
Highlighting the disparity in media coverage, Perkins pointed out, “The lottery guys, the guys that are actually gonna get drafted in the first round. Like, we’re talking about a young man that’s possibly going to go late second round or not get drafted at all.”
Perkins noted the inconsistency in coverage compared to other NBA players’ children, specifically mentioning Scottie Pippen’s son, who did not receive similar media attention. “We didn’t shine the light on Scottie Pippen’s son like this. We can’t move the goalposts when we feel like it’s convenient for us!”

While he expressed his desire for Bronny’s success, Perkins emphasized a need for realism in the discussion: “Look, I want Bronny to be successful, but I’m also being a realist here.”
Despite the skepticism around his NBA prospects, Bronny has remained a focal point in discussions about the upcoming draft, especially following his commendable performance at the Combine. Yet, as Perkins remarked, the true test of his capabilities will only be evident once he competes professionally on the court.
