Raul Mondesi, a former MLB All-Star, has been sentenced to a significant term of imprisonment following charges of embezzlement during his post-baseball career as a politician in the Dominican Republic.
Mondesi, who had a notable career in Major League Baseball from 1993 to 2005, transitioned into politics, eventually serving as the mayor of San Cristóbal from 2010 to 2016.
The news of his sentencing was brought to light by Hector Gomez, who reported that Mondesi has been sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.
Additionally, he is required to pay a substantial fine of 30 million pesos, equivalent to approximately US$500,000. This sentence comes as a result of his involvement in the misappropriation of funds during his tenure as mayor.

Mondesi, originally from the Dominican Republic, had an illustrious baseball career before entering politics. He was known for his powerful hitting and strong defensive skills in right field. Over his 13-year MLB career, he achieved a batting average of .273, hit 271 home runs, and drove in 860 runs.
Mondesi’s career spanned several teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he began his MLB journey, as well as stints with the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, Anaheim Angels, and Atlanta Braves.
However, this new chapter in Mondesi’s life marks a dramatic fall from grace. Once celebrated for his athletic prowess, Mondesi now faces a future overshadowed by legal repercussions and the serious consequences of his actions during his political career.
