Obi Ezeh, a celebrated linebacker for the Michigan Wolverines and briefly associated with the Washington Redskins, has passed away, as confirmed by the university and his family.
He was 36 years old. His mother announced his passing on Facebook this past Sunday.
“My very own! My Obi. My #2. My heart. My father’s heart. My quiet giant!” she wrote along with a picture of herself and her son. “Grand child of an elephant. Journey well to your maker oo. Mother Mary please hold his hands for me. St. Peter open the gate for him as the celestial choirs marshal him in to Jesus. My Obinna Ezeh, you will always be in my heart my beloved son.”
The University of Michigan confirmed his passing.
“We are saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine linebacker Obi Ezeh,” the school wrote on X. “Our prayers go out to his family, friends and former teammates. May he rest in peace.”

During his collegiate tenure from 2007 to 2010, Ezeh showcased his skills in 49 games for Michigan.
Accumulating 292 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks, he left a significant mark on the field. Additionally, he secured two interceptions.
Ezeh contributed to Michigan’s victories, including the Capital One Bowl victory in the 2007 season.
Recognized for his prowess, he earned an All-Big Ten Conference Honorable Mention in 2008 and was named to the Dick Butkus Award watchlist in 2009.
