Former Notre Dame standout and NFL linebacker Manti Te’o might soon transition to a career in sports media.
With Jason McCourty’s departure from NFL Network’s Good Morning Football announced by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, speculation about his replacement is underway.
The show is set to relaunch from Los Angeles in August, and Te’o is being considered as one of the potential successors.
“Two names that have been considered are former NFL players Manti Te’o and Akbar Gbajabiamila,” Marchand reported. “Te’o impressed during a recent NFL Media Boot camp, while Gbajabiamila has been part of CBS’ ‘The Talk,’ which is reportedly being canceled at the end of the year.”

Te’o, hailing from Hawaii, had a distinguished college football career at Notre Dame from 2009 to 2012, securing numerous national awards and coming close to winning the Heisman Trophy. His transition to the NFL was marred by a well-publicized catfishing scandal, which he believes adversely affected his professional playing career.
Despite the controversy, Te’o had a respectable NFL career, culminating in eight seasons with teams like the San Diego Chargers and the Chicago Bears, where he amassed 307 total tackles across 62 regular season games before retiring in 2020.
His potential move into sports broadcasting could mark a significant new chapter for the former linebacker.
