Chad Kelly finds himself embroiled in a legal issue in Canada.
A former strength and conditioning coach for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League has filed a lawsuit against the team for wrongful dismissal, alleging that star quarterback Chad Kelly harassed her and that she was terminated after rejecting his advances, as reported by TSN.
The coach, who served with the Argos from 2018 until January 2024, lodged the lawsuit on Wednesday in Ontario Superior Court in Toronto.
According to the plaintiff, Kelly persistently attempted to establish romantic connections by repeatedly asking her out, despite her polite refusals. She claims that Kelly’s advances created a pattern of behavior that raised concerns.
Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges that during a team bus journey on November 5, 2023, Kelly publicly accused the coach of engaging in romantic relations with another team member.
The female staffer is seeking $50,000 from Kelly for allegedly violating the Ontario Human Rights Code. Additionally, she is suing the Argonauts for $85,714 for wrongful dismissal, as per TSN.
In her legal action, she contends that the Argos tolerated the harassment and fostered a toxic work environment. She also asserts that the team failed to comply with the CFL’s policy on violence against women by not submitting an incident report to the league’s head office.
Kelly’s past is not devoid of controversies. After his stint with the Broncos ended in 2018 following a misdemeanor second-degree trespassing guilty plea, he ventured to the Canadian Football League. Despite his NFL career downturn, Kelly found success in the CFL, being named the league’s most outstanding player last year.
