The numbers are in, and they’re absolutely appalling.
The latest findings have confirmed that Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, misappropriated over $16 million from the baseball star to fund his severe gambling addiction.
According to a federal complaint filed Thursday, Mizuhara, who did not gamble on baseball, engaged in increasingly complex schemes to conceal both his gambling habits and his embezzlement from Ohtani.

Initially, there was confusion about the situation, with Ohtani’s team initially stating that Ohtani had knowingly transferred funds to cover Mizuhara’s gambling debts. However, they later revised their statement, attributing the misinformation to Mizuhara’s deceptive actions.
The federal investigation, bolstered by text messages and forensic evidence, now clearly backs Ohtani’s account, confirming that he was unwittingly victimized by Mizuhara’s fraudulent activities.
