Deion Sanders certainly exudes a remarkable sense of style, but at times, it might come across as a bit overwhelming.
When Deion Sanders made his presence felt in Colorado, he left no room for ambiguity, signaling significant changes on the horizon. He candidly instructed the existing players to embrace the transfer portal because he was bringing his distinctive baggage along.
“I’m bringing my luggage with my luggage with me and it’s Louis,” Sanders told the team. “I want y’all to get ready and go ahead and jump in that portal. The more you jump in, the more room you make.”

Sanders’s approach may have been bold, but it was clear that the Buffaloes had been struggling, going 1–11 the previous season and ranking among the country’s worst programs under Karl Dorrell.
However, not everyone is enamored with his approach.
Anwawn Jones, a former Colorado football player who spent a season with the Buffaloes in 2000, expressed his concerns on social media about Colorado’s treatment of his son during a recent recruiting visit. He shared how the program had ejected Marco Jones from the recruiting area during a game.
“Marco explained who [he] was, they said he wasn’t on the list and was asked to leave,” Anwawn wrote Thursday on X, formerly known as Twitter. “You kicked my son and his coach out of the facility and didn’t care that they traveled from [California].”
In his post, Jones commended Sanders and emphasized that he didn’t intend to diminish what the coach was achieving in his first season. Nevertheless, he was deeply disappointed by how Marco, a four-star linebacker from San Ramon Valley High in Danville, Calif., was treated on his visit to the CU campus.
“I know it’s busy in Boulder with all of the cool things happening, but know, you treated a true blue chipper and the son of a CU buff like a scrub,” Jones added. “I’m sad because Marco would have been a great Buff, but the Buffs don’t know who he is.”
According to 247Sports, the 2025 linebacker is ranked as the 106th player in the country, the 12th player in his position, and the 13th player in California. The Colorado defense could undoubtedly benefit from a player of his caliber.
Jones has received over 20 offers from prominent programs such as Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, and USC, among other powerhouse schools.
As the timeless adage goes, treating others as you would wish to be treated is a principle worth upholding.
