Boston Celtics fans were stunned on Sunday when they noticed activity from a social media account belonging to the late Bill Russell.
Just minutes after the tip-off of Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks at TD Garden in Boston, Mass., Russell’s account on X shared a post that read: “LET [sic] GO CELTICS!!”
This post caused confusion among some of Russell’s nearly 200,000 followers on X, as the Celtics legend passed away in July 2022.

The confusion lasted for a few hours until a clarifying post was made from the same account. It turned out that Russell’s widow, Jeannine Russell, was the one who made the initial post.
“To everyone who has reached out about this post, this is Bill’s wife. Please stay tuned for some exciting announcements about building my husband’s legacy and other amazing projects. Another great win tonight for the [Celtics] Brown or Holiday #BillRussellMVPFinalsAward,” the follow-up post explained.
Bill Russell is renowned for his record number of NBA championship wins, having led Boston to 11 titles over a span of 12 years from 1957 to 1969.
After a strong 105-98 victory in Game 2, the current Celtics team is now just two victories away from clinching another championship banner.
