Buffalo Bills fans are rallying to support kicker Tyler Bass after he received online threats following a missed game-tying field goal.
Fans, determined to counter the negativity, raised over $100,000 for Bass in the last two days. Ten Lives Club, a cat rescue and shelter, initiated the campaign, encouraging fans to donate $22 in recognition of Bass’s jersey number.
“Everyone at our cat shelter has been a big fan of his, so to see the negativity and hate that was coming his way hurt our hearts,” Kimberly LaRussa, public relations manager of the shelter, tells PEOPLE. “We have a huge photo of Tyler and one of our kittens framed in our shelter lobby so everyone can see it as soon as they walk into the shelter. We just wanted everyone to know what a great guy he is.”
The organization expressed support for the athlete and aimed to showcase the positive impact he has made.

Bass deactivated his social media accounts after facing online bullying but has received significant backing from fans and the rescue community.
It will definitely be a long off-season for Bass.
