Late in Sunday’s SEC championship game, tensions escalated dramatically as LSU and South Carolina engaged in a heated altercation, resulting in the expulsion of both benches and the apprehension of a spectator.
The incident unfolded with approximately two minutes remaining when South Carolina players took exception to a foul committed by LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson. In response, Johnson pushed South Carolina’s Ashlyn Watkins, prompting Gamecocks center Kamilla Cardoso to forcefully shove Johnson to the ground.

The situation quickly spiraled out of control when a spectator leaped over the scorer’s table, seemingly identified as Johnson’s brother, in an attempt to intervene. This unexpected intrusion added a chaotic dimension to the altercation, drawing swift intervention from law enforcement and security personnel, as captured in footage from the stands depicting the fan’s subsequent arrest.
Both LSU and South Carolina hold top positions in the SEC and are considered strong contenders for the national title. Despite the disruptive incident, the Gamecocks maintained their undefeated status, securing a victory in the game.
However, the fan involved in the altercation may face the most severe consequences among those implicated in the incident.
