The Auburn Tigers’ hopes for a clean slate under Hugh Freeze’s leadership have quickly diminished. The Tigers’ previous coach, Bryan Harsin, left a trail of chaos that Freeze was hired to rectify, but Freeze has his own past baggage.
Before ever coaching a game for the Tigers, multiple players were suspended for their involvement in a video allegedly featuring junior running back Jarquez Hunter in explicit activities.
“We are aware of the situation and takes this matter very seriously,” Auburn announced. “The appropriate offices are conducting a thorough review. Indefinite suspensions have been issued for violation of applicable Auburn Athletics department policy. No further comment will be provided at this time.”
The suspension was issued by the university, not the athletic department, and the university is currently conducting a thorough investigation.
The video was distributed on a twitter account that has since been locked, but not before the account owner tried to profit from it. It is unknown if all parties involved consented to being filmed. Hunter, who was expected to play a significant role in the Tigers’ offense, earned 1,261 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons while backing up starter Tank Bigsby.
