Bring on the robo-umps.
The Philadelphia Phillies took on the Atlanta Braves Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Braves went on to win the game 12-4, but that wasn’t thanks to the home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman.
With Nick Castellanos at the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, the Phillies trailed 2-0.
Braves starter Max Fried delivered a pitch on a 2-2 count with two outs which appeared to be strike three.
The pitch that was seemingly right down the middle was called a ball by Dreckman which left just about everyone in disbelief.
Castellanos would go on to walk which scored a run and then Bryson Stott would follow that up with a two-run single to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead.
Fortunately for the Braves, they would outscore the Phillies 10-1 the rest of the game and the missed strike three call didn’t end up being pivotal in the end.
However, calls like this are only going to increase the desire for an electronic strike zone which could possibly make its way to the MLB within the next five seasons.
