With the conclusion of the NFL season, fans will have fewer opportunities to see Sam Ponder on their screens.
Fans of ESPN’s NFL Countdown may have assumed it was business as usual for host Sam Ponder during the 2023 season. However, the longtime ESPN employee recently shared on Instagram that her fall was impacted by a “scary” health situation.
Although Ponder did not delve into specifics, she urged her followers to prioritize their well-being and undergo comprehensive bloodwork. She emphasized the importance of taking personal responsibility for one’s health, especially after experiencing a wake-up call like hers.
“I’m taking the time to really get healthy. I had a scary medical situation during the season that was a huge wake up call to me and changed how I eat/drink/sleep/exercise etc.,” Ponder wrote on her Instagram story. “I had to get serious about taking care of myself…frankly something I’ve never done because I took my health for granted and assumed all my symptoms were either related to three pregnancies, aging or a busy life. My unsolicited advice is to get very detailed and complete bloodwork done (not just the basics) as soon as you can and take personal ownership of your own health and wellness.”

Ponder’s revelation underscores the significance of proactive health management. Despite facing a health scare, she appears to have taken steps to address the situation and focus on her overall wellness.
At 38 years old, Ponder still has ample time to continue her broadcasting career and cherish moments with her family and loved ones. Having completed her eighth season hosting Countdown, she remains one of the show’s longest-tenured panelists alongside Rex Ryan.
Overall, Ponder’s message serves as a reminder to prioritize health and well-being, even amidst busy schedules and demanding careers.
